Rural Health in the Spotlight
Posted on: 12/6/2013

Rural Illinois Medical Student Assistance Program (RIMSAP)Through its long-time involvement as a sponsor of the Rural Illinois Medical Student Assistance Program (RIMSAP), ISMS is keenly aware of the challenges to attract and retain new physicians to care for residents in rural communities.

RIMSAP has helped hundreds of qualified applicants overcome financial or other barriers to a medical education. In return, these students commit to practicing in rural communities for a certain period of time following their training.

ISMS is proud to help alleviate the primary care shortage and assist medical students in need by supporting RIMSAP, which it has been doing for more than six decades! For more information or to apply for a RIMSAP loan or recommendation, visit RIMSAP's website.

Last month, more awareness was brought to this important topic of rural health when Governor Pat Quinn proclaimed November 21 as Rural Health Day in Illinois.
