Back-to-School Means Expanded Tdap Requirement, New Physical Forms
Posted on: 8/1/2013

Illinois is reporting the highest number of pertussis cases since 1950, with 2,026 cases of pertussis in Illinois residents for 2012. Whooping cough cases in pre-teens and teens have also been on the rise in Illinois during the last six years.

The new physical forms for school year 2013-2014 have been modified to include a new requirement that all sixth- through twelfth-grade students receive a Tdap booster shot, the immunization against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough). This is a change from last year when Illinois began requiring that sixth and ninth grade students receive the vaccine.

Your busy season for providing school physical forms to families will soon swing into high gear, if it hasn't already. Be sure to have the new forms at-the-ready!
