Help Take the Bite Out of West Nile Virus Season
Posted on: 6/1/2013

Cook is the first county in Illinois this season to have a batch of mosquitos test positive for the West Nile virus, so now's the time for physicians in all counties to remind patients to be vigilant about protecting themselves and their families against mosquito bites.
Last year, IDPH reported the second highest number of human West Nile virus cases in state history with 290 residents and 12 deaths, second only to the 2002 outbreak in Illinois in which 884 residents contracted West Nile disease and 67 died.

So far this year, no human cases of West Nile virus have been reported.

Access more information and a list of precautions at IDPH's West Nile virus website ;or call the West Nile virus hotline at 866-369-9710.

The website also contains bilingual materials for patients.
