Docs May Now Attest Online for Primary Care Medicaid Rate Increase
Posted on: 4/5/2013

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) directs the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) to increase Medicaid payments to Medicare rates for primary care services when delivered by certain primary care health care professionals

The rate increase will be effective for dates of service Jan. 1, 2013, through Dec. 31, 2014.

To receive the increase in payments, physicians must "self-attest" that they meet at least one of the required criteria by either completing and mailing Form HFS 2352, or attesting online - a capability that just became available.

Once your eligibility is approved, HFS will mail you a new Provider Information Sheet with a specialty code on the Provider Database. (If you do not receive within 30 days, call 217-782-0538 or send an email.)

Please note: No start date has been announced yet for the "Medicare match." But regardless, the reimbursement at the Medicare levels will be made retroactively to services rendered on or after Jan. 1, 2013.

This initiative is funded by the federal government for two years (2013 and 2014). Continuation of the increased payment levels beyond these two years must be approved by the Illinois General Assembly.
