Health Savings Account

  • A health savings account (HSA) is a tax-deferred savings tool that is set-up by a high deductible health plan (HDHP) participant and his/her employer. This type of savings account provides a reserve of funds that may be utilized by the participant should he/she or an immediate family member need to pay deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance amounts, prescription drug costs or another qualifying medical expense. An HDHP-HSA combination benefits healthy participants or those who do not access health care services on a regular basis by allowing any unused funds within the HSA to be carried over year after year.
