Biographical Information:

A board-certified pediatrician and neonatologist, Dr. Ramirez received his medical degree from the Pontifical Xavierian University School of Medicine in Bogotá, Colombia, and his MPH from the University of Antioquia National School of Public Health in Medellín, Colombia. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Tennessee/Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center in Memphis and a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the University of Tennessee/Regional Newborn Center.

Dr. Ramirez is board certified in pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Active in ISMS since 1986, Dr. Ramirez serves on its Executive Committee, previously chaired the International Medical Graduate Section Governing Council, the Council on Economics and the Governmental Affairs Committee.  He also served as a member of the Council on Education and Health Workforce. He is a member of the American Medical Association and represents ISMS to the AMA as an Illinois delegate.  He is also an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Champaign County Medical Society.

Professional Involvement:

A member of the Champaign County Medical Society, Dr. Ramirez has served as its president (1994) and represented it as a delegate in the ISMS House of Delegates for many years.  He has served ISMS in numerous capacities, including as President, Speaker and Vice-Speaker of the House of Delegates; District Trustee; Chair of the International Medical Graduate Section, Governmental Affairs Council, and CME Accreditation Appeals Committee; and member of the Council on Medical Service, the Council on Economics, and the Council on Education and Health Workforce.  He is also a Lifetime Member of (and Delegate to) the American Medical Association, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and an honorary Kentucky Colonel.

Dr. Ramirez has also served on the Illinois Medical Cannabis Advisory Board (2015-2016), the Illinois Governor's Task Force on HIV in Healthcare (1991-1992), on many hospital committees, and on the Boards of Directors of several other health care organizations.
