Biographical Information:

Clarence W. Brown, Jr., MD, is a board-certified dermatologist practicing surgical and medical dermatology at the Darien and Skokie offices of University Dermatology. He previously served as medical director of the Dermatologic and Mohs Micrographic Surgical Division at Rush University Medical Center, and as assistant professor of dermatology at Rush from 2001-2009.

Dr. Brown is affiliated with Resurrection Medical Center, St. Francis, Evanston, Saint Joseph Hospital, Advocate Illinois Masonic, Advocate Good Samaritan, and Swedish Covenant Hospitals.

He earned his undergraduate degree at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh in chemical and biomedical engineering in 1991, and his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh in 1995. Dr. Brown completed his internal medicine internship at the University of Chicago, and his dermatology residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center. He also completed a Mohs Surgery Fellowship at Baptist Medical Center, Kansas City, in 2000.

His professional and personal philosophies are intertwined in that the physician is core to providing medical care, and anything that diminishes the physician patient relationship or removes the physician from the provision of medical care directly harms the patient and demeans both the science and the art of medicine.

Professional Involvement:

At the Chicago Medical Society, Dr. Brown serves as secretary and councilor for District 1. He also serves on the following committees: Healthcare Economics; Physician Advocacy; Communications/Technology; Long-Range Planning (vice chair); Credentials/Elections (chair); Editorial Advisory Panel; and Membership-IMG. He is a current delegate to ISMS.

Dr. Brown currently serves on the ISMS Medical-Legal Council. He previously sat on the Council on Communications.

Dr. Brown is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology; American College of Mohs Surgery; American Society of Dermatologic Surgery; and International Society of Dermatologic Surgery. He currently serves on the Audit Committee of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and as a member of the Business & Operations Support Task Force of the American Academy of Dermatology; he has also chaired the Website Committee of the American College of Mohs Surgery.
