Volunteer pediatricians needed for emergency response team The Illinois Medical Emergency Response Team (IMERT) seeks pediatric physicians, pediatric ALS and BLS specialists, and pediatric nurses for a volunteer team that would focus on treating children during a disaster.

Children are more likely than adults to be injured in disaster situations and require specialized care and equipment normally not available. The pediatric team would respond to mass casualty incidents or disasters that potentially involve large numbers of pediatric patients.

Contact Scot Allen, IMERT Deputy Administrator, at 630-495-6403 or scota@imert.org for more information.

A colorful education for kids – As part of its Reality Medicine campaign, ISMS has produced What do doctors do?, a coloring book filled with fun activities describing the important role physicians have in young patients’ lives.

The coloring books were recently distributed at the Illinois State Fair and include a brief message for parents about ISMS’ ongoing efforts to keep doctors in Illinois.

Keep young patients occupied in the waiting room and help maintain awareness about medical litigation reform. Member physicians may order 10 coloring books and crayon sets free of charge. Contact Karen Clement at 800-782-4767 ext. 2423, or e-mail clement@isms.org.

A peach of a deal for ISMS members – Mark your calendars for the November 4-7 “2007 Primary Care Update,” a conference for primary care physicians sponsored by the Interstate Postgraduate Medical Association (IPMA) to be held in Savannah, Georgia. ISMS members receive a 50 percent discount on the $555 registration fee.

Interactive and case-based seminars with the faculty augment the lectures presented by physicians from leading medical institutions.

To register for this excellent CME opportunity and to receive the special price for the conference, visit www.isms.org.

Medical college celebrates 125th anniversary – In the fall of 1882, a small group of physicians opened the doors to what is now known as the University of Illinois College of Medicine. On October 5, the UIC Medical College will host its 125th Anniversary Gala at Chicago’s Union Station, coinciding with the school’s annual fall reunion. All alumni and friends of the college are invited to attend.

Congratulations to the UIC College of Medicine for its 125 years of educating students, helping patients and serving all Illinoisans!

To register, contact Connie Cochran Toole at 312-996-1640 or e-mail 125medgala@uic.edu.
