Call for Applications: ISMS Council/Committee Representatives and MECO
Coordinator Participation: Deadline April 16, 2010
The Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) encourages medical students
to participate in organized medicine in many ways and councils and
committees offer another avenue of participation with the ISMS. You
must be an ISMS MSS member in order to be considered for a
council/committee position.
Councils and committees of the ISMS are appointed and are composed
of such members as necessary to accomplish the purposes of the
council. As medical students, we are granted a full voting seat on each
designated ISMS council and committee. Here is the council and committee list and brief description of each.
Student members of ISMS councils and committees are also members of the ISMS MSS Governing Council and as such function as our liaisons. They are required to attend meetings of their respective council/committee and also attend the ISMS MSS Governing Council meetings to provide written reports/updates and contribute to governing council discussion. Councils and committees usually meet quarterly, with the appropriate ISMS division coordinating the meeting schedule. In addition, ISMS MSS appoints a student to serve as the Illinois MECO program coordinator.
The official term for the ISMS student representatives appointed to the 2010/11 councils/committees begins at the conclusion of the ISMS Board meeting this June and ends June, 2011. However, the selected representatives’ term on the ISMS MSS governing council begins with the May meeting of the ISMS MSS Governing Council (May 15).
If you are interested in being considered for service on any ISMS council or committee, or as the MECO coordinator, please return the completed application along with a statement of interest and current CV (as defined on application) by the close of business on Friday, April 16, 2010. All applicants will be notified of our decision via mail.
