Notice is hereby given that nominations are now open and being
accepted for student members to serve as the 2011/2012 school
representatives on the Illinois State Medical Society Medical
Student Section (ISMS MSS) Governing Council and at the
American Medical Association Medical Student Section assembly meetings (annual and interim). Here is a list of responsibilities
for these positions. Understanding the responsibilities of a school representative is vital to both those individuals seeking the position
and those voting for a peer to represent them in organized
medicine. Your review of the attached is requested.
Please note nomination forms must be received by Tuesday, February 22, 2011. You may nominate yourself or a fellow student member. All candidates must be 1) actively enrolled at the school and 2) a current member of both the ISMS Medical Student Section and the AMA MSS.
A statement of interest must accompany the nominating form. The statement of interest and CV (together) may not exceed two pages total (typed) and may include, but is not limited to the following:
- An understanding of the position’s responsibilities,
- A vision for the Medical Student Section’s upcoming year,
- Relevant personal experience which would enhance your candidacy for the position, and,
- An abbreviated CV indicating previous leadership positions.
If the statement of interest and CV exceeds two pages, ISMS MSS reserves the right to choose which two pages will be reproduced for distribution. All statements of interest will be duplicated exactly as submitted and distributed with each ballot.
If you are nominating someone else, you must obtain their permission before making the nomination and be sure to advise them to submit a statement of interest for the position prior to the February 22nd deadline. ALL NOMINEES AND NOMINATORS MUST BE CURRENT ISMS and AMA MEDICAL STUDENT SECTION MEMBERS and SIGN THE FORM in the space provided at the bottom of the nomination form.
A mail ballot will be sent to all ISMS MSS medical student members shortly after the nomination deadline. The ballot will list the nominated candidates according to their respective schools. The candidate receiving the most votes from his/her school shall be the school delegate representative and the candidate with the second most votes shall be the alternate delegate representative. Only current ISMS MSS members are eligible to vote. Voter signatures will be required (written and printed) so membership can be verified. If voter name is illegible, the vote will not be valid. Voting by electronic mail is not permitted.
Students elected to the 2011/2012 council should save-the-date on Saturday, April 16 to attend a lunchtime business meeting of the ISMS MSS Governing Council. This will be held during the ISMS House of Delegates Annual Meeting in Oak Brook. Although the April 16th meeting will serve as the last meeting of the 2010/2011 council, members of the 2011/2012 council will be eligible to be candidates for the following executive committee positions on the 2011/2012 governing council: Secretary, Delegate and Alternate Delegate to the ISMS House of Delegates). These elections will take place during the lunch time meeting.
The first official meeting of the 2011/2012 ISMS MSS Governing Council meeting will be held May 21. The official term for the 2011/12 school representatives begins at the conclusion of the April meeting to April, 2012.
