MSS School Representatives
| |
Notice is hereby given that nominations are now open and being accepted for student members to serve as the 2010/2011 school representatives on the Illinois State Medical Society Medical Student Section (ISMS MSS) Governing Council and at the American Medical Association Medical Student Section assembly meetings (annual and interim). Here is a list of responsibilities for these positions. Understanding the responsibilities of a school representative is vital to both those individuals seeking the position and those voting for a peer to represent them in organized medicine. Your review of the attached is requested.
Here is the nomination form. Please note nomination forms must be received by Monday, February 15th, 2010. You may nominate yourself or a fellow student member. All candidates must be 1) actively enrolled at the school and 2) a current member of both the ISMS Medical Student Section and the AMA MSS.
A statement of interest must accompany the nominating form. The statement of interest and CV (together) may not exceed two pages total (typed) and may include, but is not limited to the following:
- An understanding of the position’s responsibilities,
- A vision for the Medical Student Section’s upcoming year,
- Relevant personal experience which would enhance your candidacy for the position, and,
- An abbreviated CV indicating previous leadership positions.
If the statement of interest and CV exceeds two pages, ISMS MSS reserves the right to choose which two pages will be reproduced for distribution. All statements of interest will be duplicated exactly as submitted and distributed with each ballot.
If you are nominating someone else, you must obtain their permission before making the nomination and be sure to advise them to submit a statement of interest for the position prior to the February 15th deadline. ALL NOMINATORS AND NOMINEES MUST BE CURRENT ISMS and AMA MEDICAL STUDENT SECTION MEMBERS and SIGN THE FORM in the space provided at the bottom of the nomination form.
A mail ballot will be sent to all ISMS MSS medical student members shortly after the nomination deadline. The ballot will list the nominated candidates according to their respective schools. The candidate receiving the most votes from his/her school shall be the school delegate representative and the candidate with the second most votes shall be alternate delegate representative. ONLY CURRENT ISMS MSS MEMBERS ARE ELIGIBLE TO VOTE. Voter signatures will be required (written and printed) so membership can be verified. If voter name is illegible, the vote will not be valid.
Students elected to the 2010/2011 council should save-the-date on either Saturday, April 10 or 17 (tba), to attend a lunchtime business meeting of the ISMS MSS Governing Council. This will be held at the ISMS office in Chicago. Although this will serve as the last meeting of the 2009/10 council, members of the 2010/11 council will be eligible to be candidates for certain executive committee positions for the 2010/11 council (secretary, delegate and alternate to the ISMS House of Delegates). These elections will take place during the lunch time meeting.
The first official meeting of the 2010/2011 ISMS MSS Governing Council meeting will be held in May 15. The ISMS MSS school representative official 2010/11 term begins at the conclusion of the April meeting to April, 2011. If you have any questions, please call ISMS staff, Nena Samardzija, at (312) 782-1654, ext. 2466. Thank you.
