Brief Biographical Information:

Dr. Bitzer is a board-certified urologist practicing in Springfield. He is on staff at Memorial Medical Center and St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, and at Hillsboro Area Hospital in Hillsboro.

He studied medicine at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. Dr. Bitzer completed his urological and general surgery residencies at Southern Illinois University and its affiliated hospitals in Springfield.

Professional Involvement:

Dr. Bitzer has been an ISMS member since 1984, currently serving as Board consultant to the Medical Legal Council and the Committee on CME Accreditation. Prior to being elected trustee, he served on the ISMS Council on Communications and the Governmental Affairs Council. Dr. Bitzer is a fellow with the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Medical Association and a member of the American Urologic Association. He is also past president of the Illinois Urological Society. He is a longstanding member of the Sangamon County Medical Society and has held the posts of president and treasurer.
