Brief Biographical Information:
Dr. Smittkamp is a diagnostic radiology resident at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He has received numerous awards, grants and scholarships throughout his educational career, and hopes to practice as a neuroradiologist.
Dr. Smittkamp earned a B.A. in Philosophy and a B.S. in Honors Biology and Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1996. He went on to earn his M.A. in Philosophy in 2002 and his M.D. in 2007, also from UIUC.
Professional Involvement:
Dr. Smittkamp has been actively involved in organized medicine since the beginning of his medical studies in 1999. In addition to serving as the ISMS Resident and Fellow Section’s representative to the Board of Trustees, he serves as vice-chair of the RFS and as an ISMS delegate. He has also served as the resident representative to the Council on Communications.
Dr. Smittkamp is a member of the AMA, which he has served as a delegate and an alternate delegate, and of the American College of Radiology. He has also served in a number of leadership positions at the SIU School of Medicine, the UIUC College of Medicine, and St. John’s Hospital.
