The Essentials of Workers' Compensation Impairment Evaluation in Illinois 
 

 

 
This new seminar, co-sponsored by ISMS and SafeWorks Illinois, offers the unique opportunity to delve in to the multiple components used to assess and evaluate disability for workers’ compensation cases.

You’ll learn the nuts and bolts contained in the new AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment – Sixth Edition and gain additional insights provided by expert presenters – all in an efficient half-day workshop coming to locations across the state. Breakfast is provided. This activity is approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit ™.  These activities have been approved for 3.25 CLE, 3.15 CCM, and 3.50 CEU credits.

Learning Objectives

  • Articulate the role of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment and its use in adjudicating permanent partial disability (PPD) awards in the Illinois Workers’ Compensation system
  • Identify the differences between impairment and disability
  • Describe the process of performing impairment evaluations and how a permanent partial impairment (PPI) rating is calculated
  • Explain the diagnosis-based impairment (DBI) approach to disability
  • Identify the requirements of adequate medical evaluations for permanent partial assessment and the entities able to perform PPI ratings
  • Explain how physician exam findings, functional status (including subjective pain complaints), and clinical studies are analyzed according to the Guides’ diagnosis-based grid impairment system
  • Demonstrate how to compare the results of analysis with the impairment criteria (tables and figures) to determine precisely the extent of whole person impairment with emphasis on musculoskeletal assessments
  • Explore three samples cases and understand how a PPI rating was determined for each case
