MECO Program Suspended for 2012
Initiated almost 40 years ago, the MECO Program has provided had hundreds of first and second year medical student with a unique educational and professional experience. This has been done by exposing students early in their medical careers to the roles, problems, needs and relationships of all those involved in the direct delivery of patient care.
After 40 years and significant changes in health care delivery it is time to re-evaluate the MECO Program. For this reason, the Illinois MECO Program has been suspended for 2012.
Over the next several months, an extensive review of the Program will be conducted, with it redeveloped and restructured accordingly. Our timeframe for completion is so that any offering of the Program in 2013 will be done in a timely manner.
As part of the review, we would welcome input from past medical student and hospital participants in the MECO Program. Please send all comments to cherylkoos@isms.org.
